12 AI prompts of Christmas

Couldn't resist jumping on the festive bandwagon. Only this time, it's worth reading...

Hey, beautiful idiots! What a time to be alive. So many gifts strewn under the tree, so many streaks of smart silicon sand giving us a mixed bag of angst and exhilaration. No one knows what tomorrow brings - so let’s celebrate the moment, just as Alan Watts would have liked.

The audio above is NotebookLM’s effort at explaining an AI application I’m currently building. A business simulator. It’s something that’s been swirling around in my head for the longest time. And now the tech’s caught up, it’s time to build!

While I have you here, I wanted to share a little selection box of AI prompts I have collected this year and that are festooned across my Google Keep lists like a big string of lights, all of which work but one which means none of them flicker, flutter, and drive you frickin' mad with their amateurishly-programmed randomness.

If you’re in business, you’ll probably want to give these prompts a whirl. If not, you can probably use them to open a bakery, or something.

Oh and while we’re at it here’s a film of a robot Santa doing a little jig.

Let’s look at these 12 prompts, shall we?

"Analyse our last three years of sales data, including customer demographics, product purchases, and seasonal trends. Identify any significant patterns or correlations that we can use to forecast future sales, optimise our product range, and personalize our marketing efforts. Present these findings in a clear, concise report, with specific recommendations for the next fiscal year."

  • Business Area: Strategic Leadership, Data-Driven Decision-Making

Used at the start of the financial year for strategic planning. It helps leadership understand past performance, identify growth opportunities, and make informed decisions about resource allocation, product development, and marketing strategies. It shifts from guesswork to data-driven insights.

"Using the transcript of our most recent customer service interactions, identify the top 5 most frequently asked questions and the top 3 complaints. For each, provide a proposed solution (a chatbot response for common questions, and a business process change for the complaints). Prioritise these solutions based on their impact on customer satisfaction and efficiency."

  • Business Area: Customer Experience, Data-Driven Decision-Making

Used monthly or quarterly for invaluable feedback from customer interactions, enabling you to improve customer support by addressing recurring issues proactively and automating responses to common questions, leading to better customer satisfaction and reduced workload for support staff.

"Based on the latest market research on sustainable technology, identify three emerging trends that could impact our business over the next 2-3 years. For each trend, suggest a new product or service we could develop to capitalize on this opportunity. Include a brief description of the potential target market, key features, and possible revenue streams."

  • Business Area: Product Innovation, Strategic Leadership

Used quarterly to stay ahead of the curve by identifying emerging trends and driving innovative product development. It ensures the business remains relevant and competitive in the ever-evolving sustainable tech market.

"Create a SWOT analysis for our business, considering both internal factors (our strengths and weaknesses) and external factors (opportunities and threats). Make specific recommendations for each area, focusing on how we can better utilize our strengths, address our weaknesses, capitalise on opportunities, and mitigate threats. Include relevant metrics."

  • Business Area: Strategic Leadership, Product Innovation

Used bi-annually to provide a clear understanding of the overall business, enabling the leadership team to make smart, informed decisions. It is critical for strategic planning and business development, ensuring long-term stability and growth.

"Analyse our website traffic data and identify the three most popular pages and the three pages with the highest bounce rate. For the high bounce pages, propose improvements that will engage visitors, reduce the bounce rate, and improve conversion. Include specific examples of changes we can make."

  • Business Area: Product Marketing, Customer Experience

Used monthly to optimise the customer’s digital experience, increasing engagement and lead generation. It highlights which elements of the website work well, and which need urgent attention.

"Generate three different sets of targeted ad copy for our electric vehicle charging solutions, focusing on different customer segments: (1) small businesses, (2) large commercial properties, (3) local governments. Each copy should emphasize the benefits relevant to that segment, include a call to action, and be designed for social media platforms."

  • Business Area: Product Marketing, Sales

Used every time a new marketing campaign is released to generate high converting copy for specific customer segments. It saves marketing teams time on copywriting, and focuses on creating clear benefits that resonate with customers.

"Develop a detailed project plan for the launch of our new smart energy management system, including key tasks, timelines, and resource requirements. Include potential risks and mitigation strategies. Suggest an optimal team structure for the project, including the required skills and roles."

  • Business Area: Product Development, Operations

Used when starting any new projects, ensuring detailed and efficient project management to manage launches effectively. This will support you in completing projects on time and on budget. It also promotes cross-functional collaboration.

"Using our latest employee survey data, identify the three key areas where employees feel the least satisfied. For each area, suggest practical and actionable improvements that we can implement to enhance the employee experience, increase job satisfaction, and improve retention. Prioritize solutions based on their impact and feasibility."

  • Business Area: HR, Talent Acquisition

Used bi-annually to drive improvements to the employee experience, creating a more positive and productive workplace. It enables GreenTech to attract, develop, and retain its employees, reducing turnover and ensuring the company has the best talent.

"Create a detailed risk assessment for our supply chain, identifying potential vulnerabilities and recommending mitigation strategies. Consider factors such as supplier reliability, geopolitical instability, transportation logistics and inventory management. Suggest ways AI could mitigate each risk."

  • Business Area: Operations

Used bi-annually to identify any vulnerabilities in the supply chain. It provides detailed and actionable recommendations to ensure business continuity and operational resilience.

"Create a series of email templates to be used during a sales follow-up campaign, focusing on the benefits of our sustainable solutions for different customer segments. Include personalised calls to action and a clear value proposition, and track effectiveness through open rates and click through rates."

  • Business Area: Sales, Marketing

Used when creating email campaigns to develop effective sales follow-ups. It saves sales teams time, enables more personalized interactions, increases engagement, and drives sales.

"Identify the top 3 most time-consuming administrative tasks performed by our operations team. For each, recommend an AI-powered automation tool that could streamline the process, reduce manual effort, and save valuable time. Include clear instructions on how to implement the tool and train staff."

  • Business Area: Operations, Data-Driven Decision-Making

Used quarterly to identify opportunities for process automation, freeing up valuable time and resources for more strategic initiatives and enabling GreenTech to become more efficient and streamlined.

"Based on our current company strategy, what are the most important skills that our employees will need in the next 3 years? Suggest specific learning and development opportunities to help our team gain these skills, that are personalised to each employee based on their needs. Suggest methods of tracking their progress."

  • Business Area: HR, People & Culture

Used bi-annually to stay ahead of the competition by identifying and preparing for future skills needs. It helps future-proof their workforce by investing in their ongoing learning and development, creating a resilient team.
